Most calls start the same way: one fixture is slow, then two, and by the time the phone gets picked up there is water standing in a shower. The first job is to work out how far back the problem sits. A single slow lavatory is usually its own trap arm. Two fixtures on the same wall is the branch they share. Everything in the house at once is the mainline, and that is a different conversation.
The clearing itself is a cable sized to the line, a small machine on a sink arm or a drum machine on a branch or a stack, with the cutting head matched to what is in there. Soap and hair come out one way, grease comes out another, and a root ball does not come out on a cable at all in any way that lasts. We open a cleanout where there is one rather than pulling a toilet or forcing a machine down a trap that will not take it.
Then it gets tested. The fixture is run long enough to prove the line takes a full load rather than the trickle that made it look clear, and the trap and the surround get wiped down. If the drain went down for a reason a cable cannot fix, a belly or a break or a joint full of roots, you get told that on the day, with the camera to show you, rather than three months later on the second visit.
