Hydro Jetting
Water at pressure, scouring the pipe wall back to bare instead of punching a hole through the grease.
Glendale is two drain problems in one city. Up on the Verdugo slopes, around Adams Hill and Whiting Woods and the streets climbing off Kenneth Road, the houses are older and the laterals are long, running a serious grade down to the street. A long run on a steep grade is quick until it is not: solids outrun the water on the fall and then pile up where the pipe flattens out.
Down on the flats it is apartment stock, a lot of it from the fifties and sixties, and that is stack work: one branch serving a column of kitchens, cast iron overhead, and every unit on the line affected at once when it closes up. Those get jetted rather than cabled, and the camera goes up afterwards so the building manager can see what the wall of the pipe actually looks like.
